Danville Parks and Recreation recently entered into a partnership with Danville Regional Medical Center to promote health and wellness throughout the region.
Not only will DRMC and parks and recreation offer an array of seminars to educate, inform and raise awareness about health and wellness issues affecting the community, they will also collaborate on the Health and Wellness Check Point Team, a mobile information center.
The Check Point Team’s goal is to encourage physical activity and methods to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The team, which includes DRMC staff, will provide checks for weight, body mass index, blood pressure and body fat percentage and will demonstrate proper warm-up and cool-down exercises at various locations throughout the city and along the Riverwalk Trail.
A teen safety series also will be offered on Wednesdays beginning Feb. 6 and ending on May 15 at the Boys and Girls Clubs’ facility on Foster Road.
During the series, Parks and Recreation staff and members of the DRMC Family Medical Residency Program will address current issues affecting teen health. Each week, medical professionals will discuss the myths that affect teens. Parental permission is required.
