Adaptive Reuse – Continuing Education Session on December 1

Our friends in the Roanoke Chapter of the Structural Engineering Institute are hosting a continuing education event next Thursday entitled “Guidelines for Adaptive Reuse.”  This is a great opportunity to earn a CEU and gain valuable insight into the challenges associated with working on historic buildings.  Download the flyer.

This presentation will provide an overview of the four stages of an adaptive reuse project: document review, field investigation, structural analysis and design, and construction administration. For each stage, case studies of projects in Roanoke will be provided demonstrating the challenges architects and engineers typically face in adaptive reuse projects. Selected antiquated structural systems will be discussed, including combination (tile and concrete) floors, draped mesh floors, proprietary reinforced concrete systems, cast iron construction and foundations.  AIA credits are available to all participants.
