Course Description
In this distance learning course, we’ll discuss the function, application, of and code requirements for opening hardware and how to correctly apply that hardware for specific applications such as fire doors, egress doors, and ADA compliant openings
Course Objectives
- State the differences of open, restricted and patented keyways and the security and safety levels each provides.
- Determine which type of locking hardware best fits the owner’s need and use of the opening, while remaining code compliant.
- Describe the difference between panic & fire exit hardware and how they are used to fulfill code mandates
- Explain the difference between controlled and delayed egress and when and where codes allow them to be used

Erin Banks, CSI CDT CCPR DHT FDAI is a Project Coordinator for Allegion. Erin manages door hardware specifications for a team of specification consultants and serves as an Architectural Representative for architectural firms based in Western North Carolina and Virginia.
