Hard Hat Tour: The Citadel at 821 Salem Ave

Join us for a hard hat tour, followed by a socially distant drink at Big Lick Brewing.

Description: The Salvation Army Citadel is a Colonial Revival building designed in 1941 by noted Roanoke architects Eubank & Caldwell and constructed by local builder J.M. Turner. It is now a historic adaptation into commercial and residential space. Learning Objectives:
- Understand the nomination process to the National Register of Historic Places.
- Understand how the building’s original use is significant to the history of Roanoke.
- Understand strategies for preserving the historic elements while adapting the building to a new use.
- Understand the challenges of meeting current building code requirements in a 78 year old building.
Limited to ten attendees to maintain social distancing. Mask, hard hat, vest, glasses & steel toed boots required.
