Hard Hat Tour: The Citadel at 821 Salem Ave

Join us for a hard hat tour, followed by a socially distant drink at Big Lick Brewing.

Description: The Salvation Army Citadel is a Colonial Revival building designed in 1941 by noted Roanoke architects Eubank & Caldwell and constructed by local builder J.M. Turner. It is now a historic adaptation into commercial and residential space. Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the nomination process to the National Register of Historic Places.
  2. Understand how the building’s original use is significant to the history of Roanoke.  
  3. Understand strategies for preserving the historic elements while adapting the building to a new use.
  4. Understand the challenges of meeting current building code requirements in a 78 year old building.

Limited to ten attendees to maintain social distancing. Mask, hard hat, vest, glasses & steel toed boots required.
